Ingredients you will need

Dried Figs – Dried figs are the naturally sweet foundation of the base. Their chewy, jammy texture helps bind the ingredients together while adding concentrated fig flavor and natural sweetness.

Fresh Figs – Fresh figs add natural sweetness, juicy texture, and a beautiful pop of color to the top of these squares. Choose ripe figs that are soft to the touch but not overly mushy for the best flavor and texture.

Cacao Powder – This gives the base a deep, rich chocolate flavor without adding refined sugar. It brings a lovely bittersweet note that complements the natural sweetness of the figs.

Pistachios – Raw pistachios add a deliciously nutty flavor and subtle crunch to the base. They also pair beautifully with the figs and chocolate, creating a balanced combination of rich, earthy flavors.

Almond Butter – Creamy almond butter adds richness, healthy fats, and a subtle nutty flavor to the base. It also helps create a soft, satisfying texture that holds everything together.

Coconut Oil – Melted coconut oil helps bind the base and gives it a smooth, rich texture. It also adds just a hint of coconut flavor while helping the squares firm up once chilled.

Coconut Milk – Full-fat coconut milk is the secret to making the chocolate topping wonderfully creamy and smooth. Its richness creates a luscious ganache-like layer while keeping the recipe completely dairy-free.

Chocolate Chips – Dairy-free chocolate chips create the rich, decadent chocolate layer on top. Choose your favorite variety depending on how sweet or dark you like your chocolate.

Vanilla Extract – Vanilla extract enhances all of the other flavors and adds a warm, subtly sweet note to the base.

Almond Extract – A small splash of almond extract adds a delicate, slightly floral nuttiness that complements the pistachios, figs, and chocolate. A little goes a long way, so don’t be tempted to overdo it!

Edible Rose Petals – Edible rose petals are an optional finishing touch that makes these squares feel extra special. Their delicate floral flavor pairs beautifully with figs, pistachios, and chocolate while adding a gorgeous pop of color.

How to make the chocolate pistachio fig squares

Make the Fig Base

Place the dried figs in a bowl and cover with hot water. Let them soak for 30 minutes to soften, then drain well. Gently pat the figs dry with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.

Add the softened dried figs, almond butter, melted coconut oil, cacao powder, almond extract, and vanilla extract to a food processor. Process until the mixture is smooth, thick, and well combined.

Line an 8×8-inch square pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal. Transfer the fig mixture to the prepared pan and spread it into an even layer. Set aside while you prepare the ganache.

Make the Chocolate Ganache

Add the full-fat coconut milk and dairy-free chocolate chips to a small saucepan over low heat. Stir frequently until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy. Be careful not to let the mixture boil.

Pour the chocolate ganache over the fig base and gently spread it into an even layer.

Add the Toppings

Carefully slice the fresh figs into rounds and arrange 16 slices over the chocolate ganache. Sprinkle the chopped pistachios evenly over the top.

Place the pan in the refrigerator and chill for at least 2 hours, or until the chocolate layer is firm and the squares are fully set.

Slice and Serve

Once the squares are set, carefully lift them from the pan using the parchment paper overhang. Slice into 16 squares. If desired, garnish with edible rose petals before serving.

Store the squares in an airtight container in the refrigerator and enjoy within 1 week. For longer storage, freeze the squares and thaw them in the refrigerator before serving.
