Superfood Peppermint Hot Chocolate {Df}

If you’re looking for the BEST hot chocolate recipe of the season.. here it is!! This Superfood Peppermint Hot Chocolate. This recipe is so rich and delicious! It’s loaded with antioxidants, healthy fats, and is dairy and refined sugar free. I love to make a pot of it for my family during those cold cozy days inside cuddled up on the couch while watching a movie.

Why this peppermint hot chocolate is healthier

Chocolate is definitely on of my top 5 foods because it not only tastes delicious but it also has many health benefits! Cacao is rich in antioxidants, supports a healthy mood, and contain essential vitamins and minerals like magnesium, iron, and zinc.

Peppermint not only is a fun festive flavor but is also excellent for supporting healthy digestion. I use pure peppermint extract in this recipe and no artificial flavors like most packaged ones.

Collagen is a staple of mine, and I have it almost every day! Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and it is very important to make connective tissue. Think of it as the basic building blocks of our skin, tendons, cartilage, and bones. Our bodies produce less of it as we age so it can be very beneficial to supplement it! It provides great gut, joint, hair, skin, and nail support!

What you will need

Full Fat Coconut Milk – Using full fat coconut milk makes this hot chocolate extra creamy! I don’t understand why some people enjoy their hot chocolate with just hot water haha.

Regular Coconut or Almond Milk – I prefer to have my hot chocolate with dairy free milk and not water. I think it is key to having a very creamy texture. I like a combination of some full fat coconut milk and a little bit lighter dairy free alternative milk.

Cacao Powder – I like to use an organic brand this is also fair trade! Cacao powder is so rich in antioxidants!

Collagen Peptides – I use an unflavored grass fed collagen, but you can also use a chocolate flavored one. You could even try a protein powder if you don’t have collagen on hand! I’m not sure how good a plant based protein would taste so you can omit all together if you are vegan.

Chocolate Chips – Adding actual chocolate is the secret to making a rich and strong tasting hot chocolate! Definitely recommend trying it out!

Maple Syrup – This is what I used to sweeten the superfood peppermint hot chocolate. You can also use coconut sugar, stevia, or monk fruit.

Peppermint Extract – You will want to use an extract and not a peppermint flavoring.

Vanilla Extract – This adds a delicious flavor note that pairs well with the chocolate and peppermint.

Salt – Adding a pinch of Himalayan or sea salt helps balance the sweetness of this hot chocolate

Topping Recommendations

  • Dairy free whip cream
  • Healthier marshmallows
  • Crushed candy canes(dye free)
  • Shaved chocolate crumbles
