Orange Cranberry Sauce

I’ve never been a fan of the canned cranberry jelly at Thanksgiving. When I started making my own cranberry sauce I realized it is such a game changer! If you’ve been intimidated by trying to make it yourself, I’m here to reassure you that it is so easy and anyone can do it! This orange cranberry sauce is only sweetened with fruit juices and some coconut sugar which you can adjust to your liking. The flavor combination of the tangy cranberries, orange zest, and warming cinnamon is just what your holiday feast needs!

What you will need

Fresh Cranberries – Sauce made from fresh cranberries is always better in my opinion! Did you know that cranberries are an excellent fruit that supports a healthy immune system, a healthy microbiome, and urinary tract health?

Oranges – In this recipes we will be using the juice and zest of 2 oranges. Make sure to use the zest because that is where the strong flavor is!

Coconut Sugar This is what I like to use to sweeten the orange cranberry sauce with because it is a great sugar alternative that is lower on the glycemic index.

Filtered Water – This is what we will use to make the cranberries into a sauce texture while cooking.

Cinnamon – This adds such a warming spice flavor that pairs so well with the tangy cranberries and orange zest.

How to make the orange cranberry sauce

  1. Add all the ingredients to a small sauce pan.
  2. Heat up the pan on the stove top over medium heat.
  3. Bring the cranberry sauce mixture to a boil, and then turn the heat to low-medium and let it simmer for 25-30 minutes.
  4. Let the mixture simmer down and thicken while stirring it frequently. All the cranberries should have popped, and the consistency looks like jam.
  5. Let the cranberry sauce cool down for a while before serving.
  6. Add the cranberry sauce to a bowl and top with more orange zest then serve.
