Blood Orange Hibiscus Mocktail

I absolutely love when blood oranges are in season! This citrus fruit has a nice sweet tart flavor which is my favorite out of all the oranges plus it’s gorgeous color! The tangy flavor of hibiscus pairs so well with the citrus flavors which is why I made a hibiscus simple syrup for this drink. This blood orange hibiscus mocktail recipe is such a refreshing drink and fun to serve at a party or a Valentine’s/Galantine’s Day get together. It’s almost too pretty to drink!

What you will need

Blood Oranges – These oranges are rich in antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, vitamin C, Manganese, and potassium. They can be hard to find year round and are usually in season during the end of January through early March. For this recipe we will use some for juicing and garnished the drink with.

Coconut Water – Coconut water is a great source of naturally occurring electrolytes and supports hydration. I love having a fresh young coconut cut open and drinking the water straight out of it. My favorite brand of coconut water that taste the best in my opinion is the Harmless Harvest brand. It’s a pretty pink color as well!

Dried Hibiscus – This flower is packed with antioxidants and can support healthy blood pressure levels. It adds such a vibrant color to recipes and has a slight tart berry flavor.

Honey – This is what we will use to sweeten the hibiscus simple syrup with.

Filtered Water – We will steep the hibiscus in filtered water for a strong concentrate.

Limes – This adds more citrus flavor to the mocktail.

Ice Cubes – You can use small to medium size ice cubes.

Serving Glass – I like to serve my mocktails in a fun shaped glass.

How to make the blood orange hibiscus mocktail

First, make the hibiscus simple syrup by adding the filtered water and dried hibiscus to a small sauce pan over medium heat. Heat the mixture to just before boiling then take off the stove. Add the honey and then let set for 30 minutes then strain into a container.

Next, juice 4 blood oranges and then add the juice to a mixing glass. Add the coconut water, juice of 1 lime, and 4oz of the hibiscus simple syrup to the mixing glass and stir everything well. Then in 2 serving glasses, add some ice and the pour over the mocktail mixture. Garnish with blood orange slices and fresh rosemary and enjoy!
