Healthier Copycat Shamrock Shake
A childhood classic of mine I looked forward to was the Shamrock Shake at McDonald’s around St. Patrick’s Day! As much as I love them, I’m not a fan of the sugar crash that follows haha. I have come up with a delicious copycat recipe that is more blood sugar balanced and contains healthy fats, fiber, and protein! This Copycat Shamrock Shake is definitely something you’ll enjoy and feel great afterwards! I may have also sneaked some veggies into this shake but you can’t tell!

Is this copycat shamrock shake healthy?
This Shamrock Shake recipe is definitely a lot more nutritious than the McDonald’s version. A small shamrock shake has a whopping 63g of sugar and 83g of refined carbs, wow!! My recipe has around 15g sugar that doesn’t come from a processed source! I use a dairy free vanilla ice cream that is coconut sugar sweetened. This smoothie also contains whole foods ingredients like avocados, cauliflower, spinach, and a plant based protein! The fiber, fats, and protein make this shake balanced so you wont have that sugar crash later!

What you will need
Avocado – This make the shake very creamy and provides healthy fats and fiber! It’s also the perfect ingredient because it’s green!
Spinach – This is what we use to make this shamrock shake naturally green! spinach is also an excellent source of calcium, magnesium, iron, lutein, and zeaxanthin.
Cauliflower Rice – I know what you’re thinking but trust me you can’t even taste it! Adding frozen cauliflower to a smoothie or shake makes the texture so fluffy and creamy.
Dairy Free Vanilla Ice Cream – My favorite brand to use is Cosmic Bliss because it is made with very clean ingredients and is refined sugar free! You can substitute with a dairy free vanilla yogurt instead for a little extra gut health boost!
Vanilla Protein Powder – I used a plant based protein powder but you can use whatever vanilla protein you prefer.
Nut Milk – I like to use either almond or coconut milk in this recipe.
Almond Extract – This adds a nice touch of sweetness that goes well with the rest of the ingredients.
Peppermint Extract – You can’t have a shamrock shake without the peppermint flavor!
Whip Cream – It’s more fun to enjoy this shake topped with whip cream!
Chocolate Cream Sandwich Cookies – I like to use a gluten free/paleo cacao cashew cream sandwich cookies by Simple Mills.
