Patriotic Caprese Salad

This Patriotic Caprese Salad is a fun twist on a classic! Traditional caprese salads consist of tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and a balsamic glaze. In this recipe I added some blueberries for a fun fruity and festive look. You can make this salad dairy free as well by using a mozzarella alterative! I highly encourage you to use star cutouts for the mozzarella because it gives the salad an extra festive touch. This recipe is a fun side dish to bring to a 4th of July or Memorial Day get together!

What you will need

Grape Tomatoes – There is something so satisfying about biting into a ripe, juicy, and sweet grape tomato! They are rich in vitamins A and C. They are also a great source of fiber and antioxidants.

Blueberries – This is what makes the caprese salad a bit more patriotic looking. They are one of the best berries for getting in high antioxidants called anthocyanins which support a healthy immune system.

Mozzarella – My favorite dairy free mozzarella is by the brand Miyokos. You can also use regular mozzarella if you prefer.

Basil – Make sure to use fresh basil leaves for optimal flavor!

Balsamic Glaze – I love adding a balsamic glaze to many different dishes because it adds a nice sweet and tangy flavor. You can grab my favorite balsamic glaze here.

*You will also need a small star shape cut out*

How to make the patriotic caprese salad

First, carefully slice the grape tomatoes into halves and pour into a bowl. Then, carefully slice the basil into small thin pieces and add to the bowl along with the fresh blueberries and mix everything together.

Next, cut your mozzarella into small cubes or use a small star cutout to make cute star shapes. (I highly recommend cutting the mozzarella into stars because they are so cute!) Add the mozzarella pieces to the bowl and then mix everything together.

Drizzle some balsamic glaze on top, serve, and enjoy! (This salad is best enjoyed within a couple days of making.)
