Dairy Free Tzatziki Sauce

Tzatziki is a traditional Mediterranean sauce what is composed of yogurt, shredded cucumber, fresh dill, lemon juice, and garlic. It has such a fun tangy flavor and makes a great dip for veggies, crackers, or pita bread! I decided to make my own spin on it, and made this delicious dairy free tzatziki sauce that you wont want to skip out on! It is packed with flavor and pairs well with many dishes.

What you will need

DF Yogurt – My favorite yogurt to use is the plain and simple coconut yogurt one by Culina. It tastes the closest to a dairy based Greek style yogurt in my opinion. You also can’t taste the coconut over all the other strong flavors in this sauce!

Cucumbers – I like to use about 3 Persian cucumbers, but you can also use 1-2 medium large cucumbers as well.

Lemon Juice – Forget the store bought kind in the cute little yellow squeeze bottle.. fresh lemon juice is truly the best when it comes to flavor!

Dill – Make sure to use fresh dill herb and not dried dill.

Mint – This is optional, but gives a fun fresh flavor note to the dairy free Tzatziki sauce.

Garlic – Garlic is such a powder house when it come to supporting immune health! It can also help support healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Salt – I like to use pink Himalayan salt.

How to make the dairy free Tzatziki sauce

First, grate the cucumbers until you get about 1 1/2 cups worth. Then add the grated cucumber to a nut milk bag and squeeze out all the excess water.(you can use paper towels if you don’t have a nut milk bag.)

Next, chop the fresh dill and mint into small pieces and also mince the garlic cloves. (I love using this garlic press.) You want the pieces very small so they blend well in the sauce and get the most flavor out!

Next, cut the lemon in half and use a lemon juicer to squeeze the juice from the lemon over the bowl. I definitely think fresh lemon juice provides the best flavor!

Mix everything together well and the place in the fridge for an hour to chill and soak up all the flavors. You can serve right away but it is best to let the sauce chill in the fridge for a while so the flavors will set in.

Pairings: Serve with veggies, crackers, pita bread, or enjoy in wraps/sandwiches!
