Hojicha Chia Pudding

This Hojicha chia pudding is cozy with toasty roasted green tea powder paired with creamy coconut milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and fiber rich chia seeds. It makes for a perfect breakfast prep topped with granola or fruit, and can also be enjoyed as a healthy snack! Hojicha is very unique roasted green tea with slightly nutty caramel like flavor notes that are fun! If you’re a green tea lover like I am, then I definitely recommend giving this recipe a try!

What is Hojicha?

Hojicha is made from the same leaves that Matcha is but instead of being steamed, they are roasted. Hojicha has warming flavor notes that are nutty, toasty, and earthy. The caffeine level in Hojicha is much lower than matcha with around 12-18 mg per serving which makes it a great option for those who are very caffeine sensitive. The brand that I love to use is by Matcha Nude and you can check it out here!

What you will need

Coconut Milk – Make sure to use full fat coconut milk in the can for an extra creamy texture.

Almond Milk – You can substitute with another dairy free milk like cashew or hemp milk.

Chia Seeds – These tiny little seeds form a fun gel and get triple in size when soaked in water or milk. They are packed with fiber and healthy fats as well!

Maple Syrup – This is what we will use to sweeten the Hojicha chia pudding.

Hojicha Powder – I use the brand Matcha Nude(Code SUPERFOODIE10 get’s you 10% off)

Vanilla Extract – This adds a nice flavor note that pairs with the hojicha.

Granola – You can use your favorite brand and flavor! I recommend a granola with flavor notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and berry.

Fresh Fruit – I think that berries, fresh figs, and banana slices would taste delightful on top of the chia pudding.

How to make the Hojicha Chia Pudding

Soak the Chia Seeds

First in a bowl, add the coconut milk, almond milk, maple syrup, chia seeds, Hojicha powder, and vanilla extract. Then, whisk all the ingredients together until there are no clumps. Place the chia pudding mixture in an air-tight container and set in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Make the Chia Pudding Jars

Once the hojicha chia pudding has thickened, divide the chia pudding mixture between 3 small glass jars. Top the hojicha chia pudding with 1/4 cup granola in each jar. Add fresh fruit of choice(we highly recommend fresh figs or berries) and enjoy! Store the Hojicha chia pudding jars in the fridge for up to 1 week.
