Acai Smoothie Bowl

I love to start my day with a nourishing bowl like this acai smoothie bowl! It’s packed with antioxidants, fiber, healthy fats, and some protein from collagen peptides. I’ve been on the smoothie bowl train for a long time now and to me it’s like eating soft serve in a bowl with a bunch of fun toppings and the varieties are endless! This Acai bowl takes around 5 minutes to make and you can customize it to your own liking.

What is Acai?

Açaí (Pronounced Ah-sigh-EE ) is a dark purple berry that looks very similar to a blueberry and grows in clusters on acai palm trees in Central and South America. They have an earthly like taste with flavor notes like raspberry, blackberry, or even chocolate. Acai berries are rich in antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They contain the property anthocyanins which is what gives acai its deep blue color and its high antioxidant content. They are traditionally eaten raw, juiced, and in smoothies like this recipe. You can learn more about Acai berries Here.

What you will need

Frozen Acai Puree – I love to use the frozen acai packets from the brand Sambazon. You can probably find them at a local health food store! I prefer to use the puree over the powder.

Collagen Peptides – This is optional but a great way to add more protein to the acai bowl.

Frozen Berries – I like to use a combination of blueberries and strawberries, but you could use raspberries or blackberries too. Acai doesn’t have a very strong flavor so it pairs well with other berries.

Frozen Banana – Acai is not very sweet so if you like your smoothies on the sweeter side, then ad some frozen banana or even mango!

Coconut milk – This is my preferred milk of choice but you can use another type as well.

DF Yogurt – I love adding yogurt to my smoothies to make them creamier and to support gut health!

Toppings – My favorite toppings for this bowl are fresh berries, banana slices, coconut flakes, and granola!

How to make the Acai smoothie bowl

First, Add the acai puree, frozen berries, frozen banana, collagen peptides, coconut milk, and yogurt to a good quality blender. Then blend on low for 30 seconds then turn on medium until everything is well blended.

Next, pour the acai mixture into a serving bowl.(you will need a medium to large bowl) Top the bowl with fresh berries, coconut flakes, and gluten free granola and enjoy!
