Elderberry Immunity Shots

If you’re looking to support your immune system more, I highly recommend trying these Elderberry Immunity Shots! Elderberries have been used for centuries to help support the body in fighting against different sicknesses. These shots are packed with antioxidants and vitamins to support your body’s well being all week long!

What is Elderberry?

Elderberries(also known as Sambucus nigra) are very small berries that have been used in folk medicine for hundreds of years even dating back to the time of Hippocrates the “Father of Medicine.” These tiny berries pack quite a powerful antioxidant punch and have been known to support immune health during cold and flu season. They are harmful to eat in their raw state but can be cooked and enjoyed as a syrup, juice, or jam. You can learn more about elderberries HERE.

What you will need

Elderberry Syrup – I make sure to get just plain elderberry syrup without any added sugars.

Blueberries – These berries are very high in antioxidants called anthocyanins which help protect the body against oxidative damage. For this recipe I like to use frozen blueberries and thaw them out becasue they usually have more juice.

Lemons – Lemons are also rich in flavonoids and vitamin C. One lemon can offer about half your recommended daily value of vitamin C. They have antibacterial and antifungal properties as well!

Coconut Water – I love adding some coconut water for a touch of sweetness and a source of natural electrolytes.

Ginger – This plant has a bit of a spicy kick to it but is very powerful when it comes to health! It has antibacterial properties that help keep the bad germs away. It is also excellent for bloat issues, digestive health and nausea.

Manuka Honey – This honey is specific to New Zealand bees that pollinate the Manuka bushes that grow there. Manuka honey is contains high amounts of a compound called methylglyoxal which gives the honey it’s antibacterial properties. It is a great honey to use for extra immune support and healing. (You can use regular raw honey too.)

Filtered Water – We will use a base of filtered water for these shots so they aren’t just straight juice.

How to make the elderberry immunity shots

First, In a high powered blender, add all of the immunity shot ingredients. Blend on low for a few seconds then turn up the power to medium high and blend for 1 minute.

Then, pour the mixture into a large container through a strainer or nut milk bag. Carefully squeezing out all the juice. Store the Elderberry Immunity mixture in the fridge in a large jug or in 2 oz small glass jars.

If you want to store the mixture in a large glass jug instead of small jars, when you are ready to enjoy some, pour about 2 oz. for 1 serving.
